Laurin is an original historical type Oldenburg and East Friesian (don´t mix with modern Friesian) elite steed once the basis of modern sports horse breeding all over Europ.

The original Oldenburg and East Friesian once had been the real Destrier type close combat horses of the middle age. The real medieval elite warhorse. Already a roman writer - Renatus Vegetius - stated around 400 ac that the best warhorses are from northern cold coast and thuringian-saxonian region. In the 8th century warhorses from the region of former saxonia (nowadays Lower Saxonia) and Thuringia has been exported to Spain. It was Charles Martel with the first heavy cavalry division (Fränkische Panzerreiter) gaining a victory over the Moors at Tours and Portiers in 758 which was the start of the reconquest of Spain. Thenafter it was Karl der Große who controlled the "Frankenreich" with his heavy knights with horses from historical German breeds.

After the second world war still some of these original Oldenburg / East Friesian had been alive but then lost in modern sports horses. Such type of stallion could be found in Pedigree of Nimmerdor, Donnerhall and lots of other famous stallions.

Laurin´s pedigree is documented back to the famous stallion Herodot xx which once was captured by Napoleon. After the victory of allied under Wellington this famous stallion Herodot xx was brought back to his home stud Ivenack. There he reached the age of 35 and was burried under an oak tree. A re-breeding program started after the re-unification of Germany because in the former GDR a famous Country Stable Master Dr. Herta Steiner of Stud Moritzburg (see Cinderella Castle Moritzburg) saved the last stallions and mares based on original Oldenburg and East Friesian blood which once had been imported 200 years ago.

Now in the Studbook Old-Oldenburg/East Friesian there are again around 90 fillies a year - nevertheless far away from time when Count Anton Günther of Oldenburg (1583-1667) officially organized the first documented German Studbook around 1700. Around 1750 the tiny Oldenburg exported nearly 6000 horses every year as high valuable riding, carriage and warhorses.

The original Oldenburg had been so sought after that Count Anton Günther managed to stay out of 30-years war by gifting his horses to other emperors. This was the origin of the so-called: Horse-Diplomacy.

The physical and mental stability combined with noble attributes made the original Oldenburg / East Friesian unique all over Europ.

Combinations of Laurin with modern sports horse mares resulted in very healthy and very stable offsprings reminding us of famous stallions like Fabriano, Donnerhall, Nimmerdor, Escudo I and lots of others. Laurin brings more stability back. More physical and mental health. Even if mares have some unwanted anatomical deviations of their distal limbs the offsprings with Laurin then have very correct and stable limbs and hooves. He also passes on a very good set of teeth and jawbones but still with a noble and expressive head. He also inherits his strong, upright neck and his powerful movements comparable to a modern 350 hp SUV.

There is need to bring these genes and this basis of nearly all modern sports horses back. In former times there was more activity in exchange of good mares and stallions all over Europ than nowadays. Only AES brings this approach back to breeding.
